Lam Klong Ngu National Park
(Kanchanaburi)

This western province is blessed with so many caves. The most fascinating of them, however, are in Lam Klong Ngu National Park.

Among the park's highlights are Sao Hin and Nok Aen caves. The first is named after a a giant calcite pillar it houses that is 61 metres tall and is one of the world's tallest, while the second is an extended tunnel inhabited by thousands of birds. ``Nok Aen'' is the Thai word for swallow.

Both caves have a stream running through them. Each visitor is therefore requested to wear a life vest and a helmet for safety reason. The caves can be visited only during the dry season because the water can be fierce and very dangerous during the rainy months.

There are also two beautiful waterfalls in Lam Klong Ngu National Park, namely Namtok Klity and Namtok Nang Kruan.

Since there's no regular public transport to the headquarters of Lam Klong Ngu NP, the best way to get there is by car.  From Kanchanaburi, drive to Thong Pha Phum and continue on Highway 323 until you reach Phutto junction. There, turn right onto a minor road, go on for about 16 kilometres and you'll reach  the park headquarters and Nang Kruan Waterfall. To visit the caves you should go further to Khao Phra In forest protection unit where you can find forest rangers to accompany you into the wilderness.
