Though small and modest, Wat Phumin is rich in Buddhist symbols that speak of the amazing bond between Buddhism and the people of Nan throughout its history.
Built in 1596, Wat Bhumin is well known for its unique architectural design. The all-in-one main building has four entrances and can function as an ubosoth (ordination hall), a vihara (prayer hall) and a pagoda. The temple is also noted for its architectural details and the mural paintings that reveals the lifestyle and traditions of people who lived there centuries ago.
Wat Phumin is one of the several Buddhist temples in downtown Nan that convey the amazing blend between the arts of Sukhothai, Lanna and other local cultures. Just across the road from Wat Phumin is Nan National Museum where you can learn more about the province's history and ethnic groups.
