One step inside vihara is all it takes. The stunning craftsmanship of this Burmese architecture in the heart of Lampang is simply transcendant. The ancient Buddhist temple, which housed the Emerald Buddha for decades, is wonderfully decorated with carved pillars and wooden statues all around in Burmese style.
It is one of many Buddhist temples and houses in downtown Lampang that were heavily centred around Burmese architectural styles. When Lampang was a significant business hub with its logging concession, many Burmese businessmen found their fortune here and helped nourish Buddhism by building marvelous temples with dream-like artistry.
Until today, many Burmese style structures remain in Lampang and fill up the town with unique charm.
