It is hard to find a market that still preserves their traditional way of trading for more than a century like this Khlong Suan 100-Year Market which is located along Prawet Burirom canal that separates tambon Khlong Suan of Samut Prakan and tambon Tappharat in Chachoengsao.
The canal, dug during the reign of King Rama V, links Bangkok to Chachoengsao. Khlong Suan market, thus, was a stopover for those who travelled by boat to the capital. At that time, everything could be purchased ranging from commodity products to supplies for farmers or even opium.
Those old Thai-style wooden houses are still well maintained until today. Locals still visit the market to sell and buy items. With or without tourists, their lives do not change. The calm atmosphere of the market reminds many adults, especially those living in the big cities, of their childhood. Visitors for all walks of life go there to enjoy food, walk around or pay respect to Chinese shrine there.
