Of all historical parks in Thailand, the ancient city of Sukhothai is one of the most well known.
This seven-centuries-old city was made up of a large number of temples which, even in ruins, give visitors a good idea of the ancient Kingdom's long-gone glory days. Among the architectural masterpieces of Sukhothai Historical Park is Wat Maha That which sits in the heart of the complex. Phra Si Sakkayamunee, which is now the principle Buddha image at Wat Suthat, was brought from this temple to Bangkok during the reign of King Rama I.
The park opens daily from 6am to 6pm. Bicycles are available for rent.
