While much of northern Thailand is rapidly developing and succumbing to westernisation, Wat Phra That Lampang Luang still acts as a reminder of the artful heritage and the great wisdom of Lanna culture.
Roaming around Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, you may feel like being warped back through time to the glory days of the Lanna kingdom, some 700 years ago, and learn about the meaningful symbols hidden in their arts and craftsmanship in this stunning piece of architecture. Pale paintings on the walls of Viharn Nam Taem will give you some insight onto the views of the Lord Buddha by traditional Lanna artists.
To further understand the relationship between religion and the local people, don't forget to check out the small museum in the back of the wat.
