A journey to Sukhothai is not complete without a visit to Si Satchanalai Historical Park, which is a crucial landmark in the history of the Siamese kingdom.
The historical park will whisk you through scenic hills to visit up to 50 temples, dating back over 600 years. Though they are mostly in ruins, their remaining beauty portrays the influence of Buddhism which was adopted from Sri Lanka. Similar art and architecture also showed a strong presence in both the Kingdoms of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya.
A few kilometers to the north of the park are excavation sites, where over 500 kilns have been found, indicating Si Satchanalai's significant economic role in the production of celadon, which was exported to as far as China and Indonesia.
The historical park is open daily, from 8am to 5pm.
