Khao Yai National Park
(Nakhon Ratchasima)

The large variety of wildlife, the dense forest and the ease of travel make Khao Yai National Park one of the more popular destinations regardless of the season. It is an excellent place for family camping while adventure lovers can choose from many activities including hiking and rafting.
The park has almost 30 waterfalls in its 2,168 square-kilometres area which extend over the four provinces of Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachin Buri and Saraburi. Khao Yai attracts a diverse mix of visitors such as holidaymakers, amateur and serious bird watchers, photographers, and wildlife researchers. And for those with an extra ounce of patience you may be rewarded with a sighting of wild elephants, bulls or even tigers.

Khao Yai National Park can be reached both via Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima and via Prachin Buri. At both places, on weekends, you can find public transportation to the park checkpoints where you can hitchhike to the park headquarters. However, it is best to bring your own vehicle.

However, many of Khao Yai's trekking trails start from villages along the park's boundary.

Buses leave Mo Chit Terminal (02-576-5599) for Nakhon Ratchasima daily. Get off at Pak Chong then take a local bus, which leaves every half hour from 6 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., to the entrance gate of the park.
