One of the most frequented parks and the largest in Thailand, Kaeng Krachan National Park, houses deep forest areas, myriads of flora and fauna, granite and limestone moutains with scenic camping grounds that attract thousands of visitors each year.
One of the most popular activities is watching the `sea of fog', which envelopes the entire valley where mountains stand at 1,207 metres above sea level. Reaching the viewpoint, however, is no child's play, since visitors have to drive up steep and often narrow roads. A competent driver is required to properly navigate the rocky terrain.
As the forest here is dense and fertile, it is perfect for nature trails, bird and butterfly watching, cave tours and a lot more. Trekkers delight in roaming the park's vicinity with binoculars in hand.
Located in Phetchaburi's Kang Krachan district, bordering Burma on the west -- the park provides visitors with a nice selection of low to medium range accommodation and tasty local fare.
A stones throw away from the park area is Kaeng Krachan Dam, where you can rent a long-tail boat to tour the reservoir and ''islands'' which were once hilltops.
