When the winter breeze blows through the country, thousands of Thais head north to exjoy the long-awaited chilly weather. During this period, few destinations are as popular as Doi Inthanon, the Kingdom's tallest mountain.
Towering elegantly at 2,565 metres above sea level, Doi Inthanon is blessed with a hill evergreen forest on the mountain top. Up there, centuries-old trees stand majestically, their trunks and branches covered in thick moss and ferns due to the summit's temperate climate and damp environment.
At lower altitudes, you'll find other types of forests which support different sets of flora and fauna. Doi Inthanon is one of the very few places where the rare goral (a species of goat antelope) can still be found. The mountain is also home to at least 382 species of birds, making it one of the most popular sites among birdwatchers.
Other attractions of Doi Inthanon includes breathtaking viewpoints, waterfalls and royal projects.
